Babylon is an incorporated village in the Town of Babylon, on Long Island's South Shore, and it is often called Babylon Village to tell it apart from the town around it. The village sits on the Great South Bay, with West Babylon to the west, North Babylon to the north, and West Islip to the east.

The downtown is where Main Street meets Deer Park Avenue, a compact stretch of shops and restaurants close to the station. West of it, Main Street passes Argyle Lake and the park around it. Southards Pond, a park along the Carlls River, has wooded walking trails, and to the south the village streets run down toward the bay.

Housing in the village runs from older homes and colonials on the streets around Main Street and Deer Park Avenue to capes, ranches, and split levels on the blocks further out, with water view and waterfront homes toward the bay. Homes near the water can bring flood zone and insurance questions, and we raise them early. Because a few blocks can change the price, we compare each house with sales that match its setting.

Babylon is a rail hub. The Babylon station, on Railroad Avenue just west of Deer Park Avenue, is the end of the LIRR's Babylon Branch and a stop on the Montauk Branch, and electric service ends just east of it, so many trains start and end here. By car, Montauk Highway runs through the village, with Sunrise Highway and the Southern State Parkway close by.
