Syosset is a hamlet in the Town of Oyster Bay, on the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County. It borders Oyster Bay and Laurel Hollow to the north, Woodbury to the east, Plainview and Hicksville to the south, and Jericho and Muttontown to the west. The former hamlet of Locust Grove is now part of Syosset.

Syosset's downtown grew up around the train station, where Jackson Avenue meets Underhill Boulevard, with Cold Spring Road running through the center. The station was rebuilt with a new station house and a sculpture called Sail, by the artist Tom Fruin. For open space, the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park sits just over the line in Woodbury, and Trail View State Park has its main entrance on Jericho Turnpike there too.

Housing in Syosset is mostly single family: colonials, split levels, ranches, and capes, with newer builds mixed in. Homes close to the downtown and the station sell differently from those further out, so we compare each house with sales that match its setting.

The Syosset station is on the LIRR's Port Jefferson Branch. By car, Jericho Turnpike runs through the hamlet south of the station, the Long Island Expressway meets the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway in Syosset, and the Northern State Parkway is close by.
